About Skadar lake

Straddling the border between Montenegro and Albania, Skadar Lake is the largest lake in the Balkans and one of Europe’s most important ecological and cultural landscapes. Recognized as a protected national park, it is renowned for its exceptional biodiversity, including a rich variety of plant species and numerous endemic habitats.

The region is particularly rich in Mediterranean flora, with diverse vegetation shaped by the unique interplay of water, karst terrain and mild climate. Alongside its natural value, the lake area is also known for its long-standing tradition of viticulture, with vineyards producing distinctive local wines that reflect the character of the landscape.
